organoids, tissue engineering

This project is a basic research extension of our core project focused in precision medicine of skeletal diseases. Still, its goals are to find a mechanism of disease treatable by precision medicine approaches and the generation of an in vitro model of skeletal organoid for multiples disorders such as skeletal dysplasias, osteoarthritis, cancer, bone fragility and degenerative cartilage related diseases.

Our group has already developed bone and cartilage organoids. We combine these models into a universal skeletal organoid model by reproducing a growth plate transition as joining structure between bone and cartilage. This allows research in many skeletal genetics and inflammatory disorders as well as testing of new drugs and therapies.

1. Bone organoids

Our group has developed two forms of bone organoids based in demineralized bone matrix in different sizes specialized for in vitro or in vivo studies. These organoids are ideal for differentiations studies of stem cells, drug testing and disease modeling including skeletal dysplasia and cancer.

2. Cartilage organoids

Our group has developed a forms of cartilage organoids based in the presence of a scaffold or pure cell mass (Spheroids). These organoids are ideal for differentiations studies of stem cells, drug testing and disease modeling including skeletal dysplasia and cancer.

3. Sarcoma organoids

Our group is currently using our organoid models to study osteo and chondrosarcoma incorporating primary or stable cancer cell lines. These organoids and spheroids are ideal for drug testing and analyzing the tumor progression and interaction with health tissue.
